Asian Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network
The Asian Environmental Compliance and Enforcement Network (AECEN) is a regional network of national and subnational agencies from Asian countries committed to improving environmental compliance and enforcement in Asia. Working with USAID, the Asian Develop[ment Bank (ADB), and environmental agency leaders from 13 Asian countries, AECOM International Development facilitated the establishment of AECEN in 2005 and continues to serve as the AECEN Secretariat. In this role, we work with members to support the design and implementation of country and regional activities. Through an integrated mix of technical assistance, program coordination, small grants, and exchanges, the Secretariat supports the various activities of the network. The Secretariat also provides an information support and coordination function, including assisting the AECEN Executive Committee to implement the network's work program and organizing the AECEN Annual Forum.
Major Results
- AECEN Regional Forum 2007. As AECEN Secretariat, AECOM International Development received funding from the ADB to organize the 2007 Regional Forum, which was co-sponsored with AECEN by the People's Republic of China's State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) in Beijing, December 13-15. This 3-day event presented progress on AECEN pilot projects, rapid country assessments, and training activities, including Asian Justices Forum on the Environment and new "twinning" and awards initiatives. Three parallel, concurrent best practices workshops on citizen involvement, compliance assistance, and public disclosure were held, and AECEN members shared best practices and experiences on environmental compliance and enforcement and a final version of AECEN Regional Principles.
